ABSTRACT
Termites are mainly tropical and subtropical insects, comprising nearly 1,800 species in about 200 genera. Common to warm and humid climates. They are also found in north America and southern Europe. The life cycle habits, and appearance of termites are similar to those of Ants, so that Termites are also refer to as "WHITE ANTS". But the insects differ in a number of important aspects. Termites are agricultural pest, they are known for their destruction of wooden structures.
That is why I find ways in order to prevent Termites which has no side effects on the people. My goal is to determine the insecticide effect of Croton Oil. Croton Oil were collected and pounded the sprayed. One of the container was sprayed with the extract. The othe container served as control.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
My study can help housewives to make their own insecticide by using the materials and following the instructions that I made.They can save money because they don't have to go to the supermarket to buy commercial insecticide.They can find the materials in their environment.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
My product,the Croton Oil that can kill termites is made from simples leaves that is tuba-tuba that can see in tropical conditions.
I found the Croton plant in my neighbors yard where I found the tuba-tuba leaves.My product "Croton Oil" is mixed with ethyl alcohol.
INTRODUCTION
The tuba-tuba or Croton tiglium is an annual herbs. The goal of this study is to find out if an aqueous extract from tuba-tuba leaves have only insecticide effect on insects specially Termites.
Termites are common problem anywhere. They cause destruction of furniture, houses or anything made of wood of this researchers proves to be successful there will be an alternative solution of this problem to prevent destruction.
This research will only test the leaves of tuba-tuba for insecticidial properties. Only the concentration of the solution will be used for testing.The chemical contents of the extract will not be determined.The tuba-tuba leaves extract will only be tested on termites.
Croton is an ornament shrub,native to the old world tropics.It sometimes grows to 6 feet.There are many varieties,with thick leaves ranging in width from broad to narrow and marked with white,yellow,or red.They are grown for their colorful foliage,outdoors in warm climates and as pot plants in the north.
RELATED LITERATURE
Like Baygon that kills cockroaches and mosquitoes,Croton Oil kills termites. They are similar by killing but they differ in their insects that is killing.
This I.P Croton Oil gets on my analysis and also by testing the product in my hypothesis.
In my observation these Croton Oil is related in Baygon that has a chemical used and materials.
METHODOLOGY
MATERIALS:
*50 pieces tuba-tuba leaves
*alcohol
*bottle
*Mortar and pestle
PROCEDURE:
*First,gather all materials.
*Pound the 50 tuba-tuba leaves using mortar and pestle.
*After pounding,pour the Croton extract to a clean bottle and mixed it with 100 mL ethyl alcohol.
*Last, spray it to the termites.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
After I spray the Croton Oil extract with alcohol to the termites,I have observe that the termites died in just three minutes after I sprayed. I also observe that the extract have no side effects on the one who sprayed it.
I collected 20 termites and I sprayed.And as I observe they died in just 3 minutes. I also collected and sprayed Baygon and I observe that they died in less than 1 minute.After I sprayed Baygon, my nose feel itchy.
RECOMMENDATION
I suggest to have further study about my research in order to improve my study. I suggest to find other ways to improve the materials and chemical I used.
CONCLUSION
Therefore,I conclude based on my observation in making these research is that there ie an alternative,affordable and easy way to kill termites.I conclude that my study is effective because Croton Oil extract can kill termites in just 3 minutes.The Croton oil extract has no side effects on people and it is environment friendly.
